Pakistani Haider Ali arrested in England on rape charges
Pakistan batsman Haider Ali was arrested on charges of rape. The cricketer, who was touring England for Pakistan Shaheens (Pakistan A team), was arrested by Greater Manchester Police. Reuters contacted Greater Manchester Police regarding the investigation into Haider Ali’s involvement in criminal activities. In this regard, the police said in an email, ‘We arrested a 24-year-old man after receiving a complaint of rape on Monday, August 4, 2025. According to the complaint, the incident took place in Manchester on July 23. The (accused) man is now on bail pending further investigation. (Police) officers are with the victim.’ Earlier, cricket portal ESPNCricinfo reported in their report that Haider is not in the custody of the UK police. However, Greater Manchester Police has questioned him. However, the report did not state for what reason Haider was arrested. Another cricket portal, Cricbuzz, wrote in its report that Haider was arrested on charges of sexual assault. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has banned Haider until the investigation is completed. The PCB said in a statement that it is aware of the Greater Manchester Police investigation. The PCB has confirmed that it will provide legal assistance to Haider to “protect his rights throughout the process.”
The PCB statement also said, “The PCB fully supports and respects the legal process in the UK and recognizes the importance of allowing this investigation to proceed at its own pace. The PCB has decided to temporarily suspend Haider, which is effective immediately, until the investigation is completed. The PCB may take disciplinary action, if necessary, according to its own policies, after the legal process is completed.”
The 24-year-old Haider has played 35 T20Is and 2 ODIs for Pakistan.
